Sugar
company shares such as Bajaj Hindusthan, Balrampur Chini, Dalmia Bharat Sugar,
Shree Renuka, Dwarikesh Sugar, Upper Ganges Sugar and Bannari Amman Sugars, may
come under pressure on talk of the Central government possibly considering a
ban on trade in sugar futures. There is also talk that the government may ask
State-run agencies to import the commodity at nil duty, as sugar prices hit
₹40/kg in Kolkata’s wholesale market.
