Soybean production likely to decline by 27 lakh tonnes









The second estimate of crop production for 2015-16 are yet to come but the Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh in an interview to PTI on Sunday estimated figures of crop production. After oil seed industry, the agriculture minister has admitted that the production of soybean in the country during the year 2015-16 is also expected to fall sharply. In an interview to PTI, the agriculture minister said that the production of soybean is projected to decline to just 91.3 lakh tonnes during the year 2015-16. According to him, the production of soybean was 103.7 lakh tonnes in 2014-15. Earlier in September, the first advance estimates for 2014-15 of Kharif crop was released in which the production of soybean was expected to be 118.32 lakh tonnes. Also during 2014-15 soybean production estimate has been cut by nearly one and a half lakh tonnes, according to the fourth advance estimates for 2014-15, soybean production was estimated at 105.28 lakh tonnes, but the agriculture minister has reduced it to 103.7 lakh tonnes. The organization of soybean industries; Soybean Processors Association had released its second advance estimate in October in which it estimated only 73.79 lakh tonnes of soybeans production in the year 2015-16.
