Mustard market had been getting support in the current weeks from
talks of dry weather for some more time in producing regions of Rajasthan, as
it had enhanced speculations of crop yields likely to get affected adversely.
In near future analysts feel that clarity over this year’s production will be
one of the key price drivers, in addition to the weather related developments. Sowing
of Rabi crop is over and over previous year the net cropped area remains lower
by 18 lakh hectares. Regarding
mustard crop the crop yields can improve in case rainfall occur the growing
belts in next few days. According to the latest report of the US Department of
Agriculture, Mustard production in India during the year 2015-16 will be at
lowest level ever of the previous 8-years. The USDA report stated that
for year 2015-16, 60 lakh tonnes mustard production is estimated in India which
would be the lowest ever production since 2007-08. India had
produced nearly 63.1 lakh tonnes of mustard last year.
